25th Febuary 2016 – Triptych Competition Results

The Triptych competition was a first for the Club, and Elaine Ligo LRPS proved helpful and constructive in her comments on each entry, making suggestions as to how photos and presentation could be improved. Hopefully with the competition in the programme in future years more members will be encouraged to enter.

There was a high standard in the entries, and also a wide diversity of subjects portrayed in a variety of interpretations. It is always interesting to hear the buzz of conversation during tea time and after the judging is complete, when complimentary comments and questions are being passed around. This, to a beginner or to someone less confident, is an indication of a club where people are willing and happy to share their experience and expertise, and is not at all intimidating – rather, it is awe-inspiring!

Winners in the Digital entries were (1st) Peter Wilson with “On the rocks”, (2nd) Mel Jennings with “Robins”, and (3rd) Janet Gomersall with “Out of the woods”.

Winners in the Printed Entries were  (1st) Ian Stuart with “Religious paintings”, (2nd) Diane Murrell with “Elephant eyes”, and (3rd) Tony Jennings with “Topiary”

“Out and About” Buttermere and Wasdale Trip 20th Feb 2015 – 8am start out from Otley

This coming weekend we are taking our Cameras and Tripods “Out and About” to the Lake District

First we will be visiting Buttermere – home of the famous Buttermere Tree and the Buttermere Pines. It’s a flat walk around Buttermere surrounded by some of the finest scenery in England. Impossible not to get a good shot. ( Buttermere – a walk around the Lake )

Then onwards to Wast Water to visit Britains favourite view ( http://www.ntlakesoutdoors.org.uk/things-to-do/britain-s-favourite-view ). It should be a great day out

11th February 2016 – Practical Portrait Lighting with Dan Marsh

How many people have a portrait photo of the family on the wall?

This week we were fortunate in having Dan Marsh, a professional photographer, coming to give advice as several models posed for us. He allowed us to use the equipment he uses, but also helped those who wanted to use their own cameras and club equipment. It was helpful to see how different lighting affected the final photos, and also how to pose models to better effect.

We have to thank all those who gave their time to help members who enjoy portrait photography, and convinced others to try it.

If members would like to borrow the club equipment for taking portraits at home, perhaps in preparation for the competition next year, please have a word with David Ricketts.

The next meeting, on 18th February, is the annual Battle with Cookridge Camera Club, so please come along and support the Club. There is a high standard of photos again this year, and we stand a very good chance of winning!
